Why is My Dog Shaking?

Do you ever see that your loving dog is shaking or shivering? If so, then it is safe to accept that there may be something is wrong in your pet. But it is not so easy to tell that the problem is very simple or very serious. Sometimes the problem arises due to very hot environments or very chilled winter and sometimes it may be the cause of physical illness or injury. So the problem can be diagnosed to observe your dog’s physical conditions and symptoms. Some of the problems are very normal symptoms of dog and some symptoms will be very serious for your dog.

One of the very simple problems is complained by the dog owners that their dog is vomiting like yellow color foam. This is because your dog’s stomach is fully empty of food. So the yellow color is coming from the Bile which is a digestive fluid stored in a gall bladder and produced in the liver. It is released in the small intestine below the stomach. As because the stomach is not getting any food that why the fluid is produced by the bile. So there is nothing to worry about on a simple thing.

So as the above there are several simple causes for the shaking of the dogs and as well as serious causes that dogs can shake their body. So under the proper care and observation of your dog, you will understand the cause of your dog shaking.

1. Thermoregulation

This means the temperature regulation of the body of your dog. Shaking occurs when the heat of the body started to become higher than the normal. If your dog is suffering from high fever then the thermostat of the body of your dog started to reset the high temperature. When the temperature starts become normal then the body may start to shake. So this may be one of the reasons for shaking the body of your dog.

2. Anxiety or fear

A dog can be shaking its body due to anxiety or fear. Sometimes fireworks, thunderstorms, travel or any type of changes in the environmental condition can lead to the anxiety or fear effects in the dogs. If your dog is shaking due to anxiety or fear then some of the anti-anxiety medication is needed during that stressful period. This is better to consult with your veterinarian to get a better result.

3. Excitement

Sometimes it can see that your dog is shaking. For example, if they see an animal and who they want to chase they become very excited or if they see that their food is ready before going to bed. These are a very normal condition where your dog can shake their body.

4. Muscle weakness

Sometimes it is seen that our muscles become stressed after exercise and started to quiver or shake. The same situation can be noticed in your dog so the shaking is the common symptom of pain, injury or weakness. Sometimes if your loving dog became old then their muscles become weak then they can shiver or shake due to the old age weakness.

So it is necessary to consult with your vet to check whether the weakness in their right hind leg or any other parts of the body. Sometimes it is seen that the muscles pain gets worse after touching any specific area of their leg. So your vet can tell you the actual cause of the muscle weakness of your dog.

5. Medical reasons

There may be some medical reasons or diseases that can be the cause of the shaking of your dog’s body. They are hormonal imbalances, neurological disorder, kidney diseases, and seizure disorders etc. These diseases can cause trembling in the dog.

So try to keep your dog under observation that is there any changes in the behavior or activity level and appetite of your dog. Also, pay attention to the stool and urine regularly of your dog. If any unusual symptoms arise with other symptoms then please consult your vet then maybe your vet can give you some blood tests and also other checkups which are very important for the good health of your dog.

6. Toxins

Your dog may be panting after giving birth

A dog can be panting during or after the giving birth due to the heavy exertion and extreme stress during the labor time. It is very much normal as this type of shaking will stop after 24 hours of the delivering of the puppies.

Panting is very normal at the time of the delivery of your dog but it can continue up to the second day also but it persists then it needs to consult with your vet as there may be some infections in your dog’s body.

Normally if the symptoms of the shaking of the dog are normal then it is can be treated in the home but if the symptoms of the shaking are really serious then it is time to go to the vet as soon as possible.

My dog is shaking during sleep at night??

This is a very normal question of the dog owners that they feel whether this is any serious or not. Actually, this is very normal. No need to worry about. This is normal and habitual behavior and no pathological analysis. During the sleeping human, dogs pass different phases like Light sleep and Paradoxical sleep or deep sleep.

  • Light phase: In this phase, our dog’s body starts to become relax and the brain activity also starts to decrease. This phase is the longest phase. If we closely see then we see that our dog’s breathing and heartbeats get slower.
  • Paradoxical sleep or deep sleep: This is called the REM phase (Rapid Eye Movement)

The brain activity of the dog in his phase is increased in comparison to the light phase. But this is a very short phase. So during the light phase, different REM phase occurs which helps the dog to do work when they wake up. When the REM phase occurs you can see your dog breaths fast and irregularly.

So the shaking during the sleep happens due to these phases of the sleep of the dogs. Also, the puppies sleep more deeply in comparison to an adult dog. So you can see trembling or shaking in puppies more than the dogs.

How to prevent your dog from shaking?

According to the discussion, the prevention of the dog shaking depends on the cause of the dog shaking or shivering. If the cause of the shaking is cold condition then tries to keep your dog warm and try to do well exercises, up-to-date with preventive care and prevent them to take toxins can prevent the shaking of your dog.

But if the problem is internal or if there is any medical issue then you cannot prevent the shaking of your dog as long as your vet will cure your dog. Then it is your duty to look after your dog and point out their symptoms to your vet and take care of them.

What to do at that time if shaking or trembling occurs?

Shaking or trembling is always making very nervous for dog owners. It makes very concern about the dogs. This is recommended that as a pet owner you should be able to find out whether it is the normal nature of your dog or not. If not then find out the cause of the shaking or trembling. If you find that any external effect is stressing your dog then please remove your dog fro that situation first.

Secondly, if the problem is persisting you can check the body temperature of your dog. The normal temperature is 100-102 degrees Fahrenheit. If the temperature is becoming higher than that then you need to consult with your vet.

If all the above is normal then you will need to wait for one or two hours. If the problem will still persist then please contact your vet for a further follow-up. In the meantime, you need to follow any other symptoms that are coming out from your dog.

Your dog is shaking head

In most of the case it is normal but as long as you will see it is infrequent. Sometimes the shaking of the head can be caused by some of the reasons. There are some reasons which are described below

  • Bacterial or Yeast Infections in the Ear

    The most common head shaking of the dog is caused by the ear infection. The ear infection can cause itchy feelings, inflammation, lots of discharge from the ear. This infections effects in the adult dog, you can see by lifting up the flap of their ear and if find any redness, swelling or discharge then you can make sure that there may be some bacterial or yeast infections. So it may be the reason, that why your dog is shaking its head.

  • Allergies in the ear

    Allergies are one of the causes that give an itchy effect that’s why your dog is shaking head. Allergies can occur from food or any other environmental triggers like pollen, dust, and mold spores. Normally it is said that food allergy involves if you put your dog in a single carbohydrate related food example rice or potato and a single source of protein that dog did not eat before like duck etc. This is recommended that the dog should eat this food only for a month or a two. Symptoms of the allergies in the ear of dog show that itchy skin, scratching at the ear, head shaking, hair loss etc.

  • Water in the ear

    Your dog may shake head if water enters into your dog’s ear during the time of bathing or swimming. This can be avoided to put cotton balls in your dog’s ear when bathing or swimming. Also, try to avoid spraying water directly to the head of your dog during bathing. If your dog does not comfortable with the cotton balls then no worries, use ear band and clean your dog’s ear after swimming with a dry solution. Your vet can help you more on this. Also, there are some serious conditions when your dog can shake his head. Sometimes any foreign object enters into their ear canal or any inflammatory diseases etc.
